Medical practitioner with specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Dr Robert Edwards completed Medical School at the University of Queensland in 1999. Following graduation Dr Edwards spent a number of years working in regional and rural Queensland prior to undertaking specialist training in Anaesthesia in Brisbane. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2009. Dr Edwards has undergone training in all sub-specialties of anaesthesia with significant exposure in both paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia as well as training in acute pain management, intensive care and resuscitation/crisis management.
Dr Edwards maintains his expertise through continuing professional development involving simulation sessions, congresses, workshops and journal reading as well as peer review and clinical audit. He is regularly involved in local anaesthesia education and craft group activities and is an active advocate for the consistent improvement of the quality and safety of anaesthesia in the Bundaberg and Wide Bay region.
Dr Edwards has General and Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), is a registered Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and is a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists.
Dr Edwards currently provides anaesthesia and acute pain management at the Friendly Society Private Hospital and Mater Hospital Bundaberg for a broad range of surgery including Orthopaedic surgery, General and Bariatric surgery, Gynaecological surgery, ENT, Ophthalmic and Urological surgery on both adult and paediatric patients. Dr Edwards has extensive experience in Spine surgery and utilises regional analgesia techniques (nerve blocks) to improve post-operative analgesia for a wide range of surgical procedures.
